Yasser Farahat

Professor: Yasser Farahat, MD, PhD, FEB, FRCS(Urol)

 

Dr. Yasser Farahat currently serves as Professor of Urology at Tanta University-Egypt, a Clinical Tutor at Edinburg University, UK and fellow of the royal college of Surggery UK. He is a consultant urology at ministry of health UAE and Fellow of European Board of Urology (FEBU). He is acting as a senior consultant of urology at Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital (SKGH-UAQ), UAE.

 

His special interests & researches done include: minimally invasive surgery, endo-urology,Robotic Assisted FURS, reconstructive urology and Andrology. He completed his MD in 2004 at Tanta University, Egypt. He had been awarded a number of prizes including the best research and presentation at the first Eastern Mediterranean Meeting of European Association of Urology 2007 and the best research poster presentation at the 25th annual EAU Congress 2010.

 

He is one of the world wide initiators of using the robotic assisted RIRS since the invention of the Roboflex and improving the utilization of  flexible ureteroscopy in renal calculi management.

 

He is also, a reviewer of a number of international journals. He has published over 35 international and local publications and has presented at 90 conferences worldwide.

 

Dr. Farahat is an active member of many international urological associations and societies including the, the European Association of Urology (EAU), the Society International De Urology (SIU), Endourological Society and he is currently the head of the scientific committee of Emirates Urological Society(EUS) Cochair of the scientific committee of Urological Association of Asia (UAA), secretary general of Arab Association of Urology (AAU) and Chairman of Arab School of Urology.

Ahmad Shamsodini

Dr. Shamsodini is working as senior consultant and as a chairman of surgery department in AlWakra hospital, part of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Qatar. He is a faculty member in Weill Cornell medical college-Qatar as assistant professor.  His main interest is in the field of Andrology reconstructive surgery and urethral reconstruction. He worked as head of urology in AWH and as head of Andrology unit in Hamad General Hospital before joining his current position. He also works in the field of minimally invasive surgeries for stones and endo-urology surgeries. 

He was graduated from Medical university of Debrecen, Hungary and he finished Arab board of urology residency program (CABU) and fellow of European board of Urology (FEBU) and   fellowship in Andrology and infertility in Italy, Torin and in HMC, Qatar.

Dr. Shamsodini was invited to several live surgery workshops both in the region and internationally for sharing his expert opinion and surgical skills in the field of penile prosthesis surgery, Peyronie’s disease surgery and penile skin reconstruction. He was invited as faculty member for several scientific meetings in Europe and in the Middle East. Dr. Ahmad is active in the field of research and contributed with several papers that were published in peer reviewed journals.

Ayman Raees

Ayman Raees, MBBCh MRCSI FRCSC, is a laparoscopic and endourologist at the Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) hospital since 2012.

 

He graduated from RCSI Dublin in 2002 and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2005.

 

He completed his training in Urology in June 2011 at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario Canada. He then completed a one year laparoscopic and endourology fellowship at the University of Toronto in June 2012.

 

Dr Ayman has the largest laparoscopic series in Bahrain having established a Urology laparoscopic program at the BDF Hospital. Moreover, he established a Saudi Board Urology Residency program that he directed from 2016 until he stepped down in 2020 to assume the role of Chief of Surgery at his hospital.

 

Dr Ayman has served as the Bahrain Urology Association Vice President from 2014-2017.

Asst Prof Chua Wei Jin graduated from University of Bristol, UK in 1997. He obtained his specialist degrees in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Master of Medicine, Surgery (Singapore) in 2001 and 2003 respectively. He has completed his advanced specialist training in Urology in 2006, and is currently a Senior Consultant, Clinical Director and Director of Endourology with the Department of Urology at the National University Hospital. He is also an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore.

Asst Prof Chua was awarded the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship in 2008 and had spent a year in the United Kingdom for his subspecialty training in Laparoscopy and Endourology. He worked as a fellow at the Bristol Urology Institute. His current practice at the National University Hospital includes all areas of general urology with special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgeries, Endo-urology, Laparoscopic and Uro-oncology surgeries.

Asst Prof Chua started the Day Surgery Transurethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) program in NUH in 2005. In 2010, he introduced a minimally invasive therapy for benign enlargement of prostate (Transurethral Needle Ablation of Prostate or TUNA in short) which he has been doing in the out- patient clinic under local anaesthesia.

Advances in technology have increased the number of minimally invasive surgery options for benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH). Asst Prof Chua is one of the first few Urologists in Singapore to be trained in both UroLift and Rezum. UroLift uses implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way, increasing the opening of the urethra. Rezum on the other hand, makes use of the thermal energy from steam to gently kill the excess prostate cells.

Aside from clinical practice, Asst Prof Chua is also actively involved in clinical research and teaching. He travels frequently in the region to conduct training in Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) for stone diseases. He also proctors other health care professionals locally and in the region for Rezum, Urolift, Laparoscopy and Endourology surgery.

Hussein Kandil, MBBCh, FACS, MBA is urologist specialized in male reproductive and sexual medicine, he currently runs the male reproductive unit at Fakih IVF Fertility Center in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and is the andrology section Coordinator at the Arab School of Urology. He obtained his urology diploma from Balamand University in affiliation with the division of urology at St. George Hospital University Medical Center (Lebanon). His residency included training at the urology divisions of Pontoise Regional Hospital and Lens Teaching Hospital (France). This was followed by a traveling Fellowship in Andrology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA), with clinical training in the vast array of male reproductive medical and microsurgical treatments. Further, he earned the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Later, he graduated with Distinction earning a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Strathclyde, UK.

 

During his years of practice, he was among the first to perform micro- dissection TESE for patients with non-obstructive azoospermia in Lebanon. Dr. Hussein Kandil authored a male infertility manual and co- authored two book chapters and multiple papers in the field of male infertility. His areas of expertise includes the microsurgical techniques in andrology including micro-dissection TESE and microsurgical varicocele ligation, in addition to the managment of male reproductive endocrine disorders.

Abbas Basiri

Dr. Abbas Basiri, started his urology residency in 1982, passing his board exams in 1986.  He started at Shahid Beheshti Medical School as an assistant professor in 1989, became associate professor in 1994, and was promoted to full professor in 2005. 

He has held many positions such as provost at Labafinejad Medical Center, provost at Shahid Beheshti University and president of the Iranian Endourology and Urolaparoscopy society.

Currently, he is director of the Urology and Nephrology Research Center, chief editor of Urology Journal, President of the Iranian Urological Association, a member of the National Board of Urology examination. 

He pioneered the field of Endourology in Iran.

He has published 205 articles in international journals and presented his work at 184 international congresses. He has contributed four chapters to two urology textbooks.  He has received national awards as the best researcher in two times.  He also has been selected as the best professors at Shahid Beheshti University many times for his research.  

He is a member of AUA, EAU, MESOT and the SIU.

I received my medical degree from the Urmia University of Medical Sciences, Iran, in 1995. I obtained the Iranian specialist board degree in Urology in 1999, completed my fellowship in Female Urology in Jewish General Hospital, Montreal, Canada. I started off as an assistant professor in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and have been the professor of urology department in TUMS since 2011. Because of my interest in female urology and functional urology, I visited the Urology department of Sheffield University in 2009. Additionally, in 2009, I became the founder of the female urology fellowship program in Iran and Neurourology PhD program as well. Furthermore, I am the program director of urology residency and fellowship program in TUMS.  I also direct the female& functional urology society of Iranian Urological Association, represent ICS in Iran and I am the scientific secretary of Iranian Continence Society. I became the chair of developing worlds committee in ICS in 2016. I work in the biggest referral teaching general hospital of North West of Iran which is an affiliate of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Imam Reza Hospital offers a full range of primary and specialty care for adults. I have joined two Evidence based medicine training courses in CEBM at Oxford University, in 2004, and a clinical EBM fellowship program in JBI, Adelaide University in 2016. I am the director of EBM center of Excellence in Iran. More than 35 clinical faculty members are working in this center. Several projects and systematic reviews are being handled by my team.  I have published more than 100 papers in national and international scientific journals including some contributions to textbooks and handbooks mainly dealing with female urology and functional urology and EBM.
